The Wall

Now with CSS margins!

By the end of the 20th century, web designers were using all sorts of trickery to add some formatting to their otherwise bland 90s sites. Embedding content in HTML tables, and using text rendered in jpeg images was clunky, but not uncommon. With all this added complexity, the days of building a site in a text editor seemed to be over.

Then something cool happened. Cascading Style Sheets came on the scene to save us from all of that. By separating the look of the page, from the structure of the page, the HTML became much simpler. In fact, with a little CSS styling, the 90s Netscape 2.0 page gets a new lease on life.
